Service Learning

Service learning, philosophically, is centered on the belief that public higher education should contribute to the betterment of society emphasizing both student learning, and local civic service. Through this out-of-the-classroom work, students will gain experience relevant to their degree, while also finding out the ways in which their education can be applied beneficially to their community. In combining community service, academic instruction, reflection, and purposeful community action students ideally will walk away not only with real world experience but also with a renewed sense of societal responsibility.
